December, 2014

Dear North Community,

The school year is quickly passing by; it’s hard to believe that December is here. Please continue to support our efforts for raising comprehension by having your children read frequently. You can read with your child or take turns reading a story to each other. You can ask them to predict what’s happening next in the story or ask them to tell you what the story is about, who the characters are and where the story is taking place. You could also ask them to compare a story they have read before with the story that they are currently reading. December 22 we will celebrate our positive behaviors with a Holiday Concert performed by the high school strings students.

Student Council and the Special Activities Committee joined forces to raise goods for the troops. Much needed necessities were brought in by students and staff. Veterans picked up the goods on November 24th and are packing and shipping them out to our countries service men and women.

The November fundraiser calendar raised $13,700 to date, in addition to $114.00 from Orange Leaf participation. All proceeds go back to supporting the students learning. We had a 3rd grade field trip to Plimoth Plantation and first grade Native American perspectives in school presentations.

Below are PATHS messages that will be included in our morning announcements for the

Month of December. PATHS is the social/emotional curriculum that has been implemented K-5.

Week of December 1

We all have two kinds of feelings ~ comfortable and uncomfortable. The color yellow represents comfortable feelings. YELLOW makes us think of sunshine and happy play times. Make today your yellow day. Put a smile on your face and look for the color yellow all over our school.

Week of December 8

Sometimes saying, “I’m sorry” seems to be too hard to do. Maybe you can apologize in different ways – shake hands, share something, or give a compliment.

Week of December 22

You may be able to hear, but do you REALLY listen to what others are saying. Good listeners focus, they concentrate on the speaker and what is being said. They sit still and STAY still until the speaker is finished. Try hard to really listen to one person today. Please refer to the December Calendar.
